GRLCVLT Smashes the Patriarchy, Strives to Unseat Stanford Rape Case Judge / by Sophia Harvey

Last night, the New York members of GRLCVLT gathered at Holyrad Studio for a patriarchy-smashing event — "Fuck Rape Culture." With the help of lead organizer Remy Holwick, GRLCVLT is a nationwide secret society aimed at promoting justice for women and shutting down the notion that the "suffering of women is secondary to the advancement of men." GRLCVLT's New York chapter boasts more than 3,000 members and provides a positive and safe space for women to speak their minds.

Another part of GRLCVLT's mission is to stop rape culture at colleges (and beyond). So in light of Stanford student Brock Turner's lenient sentence for sexual assault, the collective decided to draft letters to oust Judge Aaron Persky. The night wasn't just about the letter-writing campaign — it was also a party for the organization's members. GRLCVLT invited Jessicka Addams (of Jack Off Jill) and Michele Landis Dauber (a Stanford law professor) to appear via a live-stream video call at the event. Edith Pop, It Was Romance (featuring Lane Moore), Beccs, FEATHERS+EYES, and DJ Night Doll also performed for the crowd.
